Rachael and Davor’s elegant wedding at Reunion Resort was an unforgettable celebration of love, laughter and the start of a life-long journey! We began planning the couples wedding wedding in 2019 when the couple hired Blush by Brandee Gaar, expert planner Alison Watkins. This wedding was expected to have well over 200 guests, and the wedding was to take place on Labor Day weekend in 2020. With the pandemic lasting longer than anyone could predict, can imagine the roller coaster we went through in the final 6 months leading to their big day? Rachael and Davor made the tough decision to continue moving forward with the same date but scaled back on their guest count to slightly over 100 guests. In doing so, we wanted to pay even more attention to the details that mattered most to them and to make the large event space not feel so empty.
We were fortunate to be able to add more tables to the event pavilion at Reunion Resort to not only create social distancing among their close family and friends, but we were also able to fill a space that typically holds over 200 people for around 70 guests. We created a large area for dancing so guests weren’t on top of each other. The wedding felt remarkably “normal” in this crazy year we were having!
Rachael and Davor wanted their personalities to shine through in their wedding details. From Rachael’s DAZZLING Betsy Johnson boots to Davor’s Croatian accents, this definitely was the wedding they envisioned.
We often stress to couples the importance of a backup plan. With the wedding taking place during hurricane season (June 1st through November 30th, September being the peak), this year was no different. We had conversations early on and had a plan B in place. At the wedding rehearsal through the morning of wedding day, we were confident in the origional plan. The forecast was in our favor and we were excited to give them the ceremony that they had been dreaming of.
During reception setup, a shower rolled in. Not a huge deal. We still had a few hours before the ceremony and we weren’t setting that up yet. As a Blush Senior Planner, I have been planning weddings for over 13 years, and weather calls are the only part of my job I dislike. I usually have a gut feeling one way or another but this time, I had nothing. The radar had steered us wrong all day and while I wanted to call it in, the radar predicted blue skies. We kept it outside and at an hour and half prior to ceremony, the sky opened up! Nothing on the radar!!! We put our backup plan in place and the team at Reunion Resort along with the always amazing Cheryl’s Distinctive Creations setup the ballroom in record time. The couple and their guests were grateful for the quick change and that their altar floral was able to transform the ballroom.
This is why we can’t stress it enough, have a backup plan!
The reception was full of gold accents, romantic candlelight tables, extravagant florals from CDC Floral, and pops of burgundy and blush. We couldn’t get enough of the choreographed father-daughter dance!! Rachael and her dad David were pros on the dance floor, and we could tell they had fun rehearsing and performing this choreographed dance!
At the end of this magical day, Rachael and Davor were married and able to start the next chapter of their life together. We were honored to help bring their vision to life and wish them a lifetime of love, health and happiness!
